I am licensed doctoral level clinical and consulting psychologist with a rather unique professional background. I have significant training and experience in mental health, addictions and health behavior change. In recent years I have developed a subspecialty working with current and former/veteran military service members and families who may be expereincing (post) deployment related adjustment issues including PTSD and marital/family issues.
I enjoy working with:
- adults, couples, families, and adolescents (13 and above)
- groups, organizations, and organizational leaders
- primary and specialty care providers
- health care providers who need support or consultation
While primarily devoted to a psychotherapy and health behavior change practice, I have a background in nursing; addictions; the military; curriculum and program development; the training of psychiatrists, psychologists and primary care providers; in working with professionals in distress, and in consultation to leaders of small and large organizations. I invite you to read on to see if I might be someone who you feel well matched to in terms of getting the services you need.
I know that the decision to seek therapy for yourself or someone you love is not necessarily an easy one. While you may believe, with good reason, that your distress or desire for assistance brings you here, it is both courage and openness to growth and transformation that is often what separates the distressed into two categories---those who are willing to take an active role in their health and well being; who have the courage to say “I need help,” and those who remain in their pain. The large majority of people who do engage in therapy feel they benefit from it and many to a substantial degree. Hence the butterfly symbol of nurturing yourself when needed, of change and transformation, of becoming free in a new way. With compassion for all those who suffer in any way, and no matter who you choose as a therapist, I salute your courage.
